In the previous design, the restaurant area was too small to accommodate large crowd. There was more room given to markets than the restaurant. More space was needed in order to fit the bar, receptions and booths into the restaurant area.

By doing that, it allowed more programmes to take place as well as more room for seating became available.

The diagram shows which direction the restaurant has been extended to.

After the big model event, all the key points were taken into consideration. One was to do with the staircase. The staircase interrupted the terrace area and had to be moved into the dining area.

The diagram shows which direction the staircase is moved to.

The staircase can be seen in the dining area here. The terrace is open for people to freely roam around and has become a pleasant place to the public to relax and enjoy the environment. The older design was also missing an elevator, which was then added later in the current design.

The diagram shows reduction of permanent markets and their transformation into open kitchens.

These kitchens or food markets can be seen in this plan above. This allows better experience and circulation for the public. All kitchens fit in better now and people will be able to buy and enjoy their food, whilst watching kitchen activities, similar to the restaurant setting.

These permanent markets were closed spaces and were very disconnected from the community dining area, hence they did not connect with the over all space.

The idea of a person entering the market to get food sounds very hectic.

Even though the whole project was under one roof, the restaurant still seemed separated from markets. This was due to how the roof curves around the restaurant. In the big model, it was identified how the tilted walls were not required anymore in the design.

The diagram shows changes were made to the rood design and aesthetics. The roof has been raised and the curved roof around the restaurant has been straightened.

The whole building looks as one rather than two buildings combined. As the community area is very large, by raising the roof above this creates a large open space. The market area appears more traditional and out in the open by having a fully glazed roof.

The pot wash area is a new addition to the design. This is a shared space between markets and the restaurant where dishes are cleaned. This gives the impression of two spaces working collectively that creates a very strong connection between two space.

This is the final diagram for the programme and circulation.

Post the big model event and after designing the staircase, I encountered a number of problems and issues that had to be tackled. The major design issues that effected the design the most are mentioned below
