My chosen site is Essoldo. I have chosen this site as it is an important landmark in Stretford and also because there is high demand for this site to be reused (explained on 'The Event' page). Its iconic frontage is Stretford's identity and character. The building has been vacant for over 20 years. The building adjacent to Essoldo has commercial spaces on the ground floor, however most of them are vacant. The rest of that building is residential above. As a member of Curatrix, it is our aim to guard/protect Sterford's community and its heritage and help it prosper further. Adults residents of Stretford  also want the Essoldo to reopen and reused. Elderly on the other hand are also have an interest in reopen Essoldo for a restaurant/eateries as they hold restaurants/bars their number one priority. This was mentioned on multiple occasions. Furthermore, they would like to utilise canal. So, there are a lot opportunities for this place to be developed.

Why Essoldo?

Site condition

Site Analysis

The site consists of both public and private areas. The large area is mostly covered by the Essoldo that may be demolished as the project progresses. The adjacent residents' building is only blocking some direct sunlight, so there is an adequate amount of sunlight available to the site. Noise levels are high on the Edge lane and Chester road, however the building between Edge lane and The Essoldo may act as a sound barrier. Most strong winds are channelling from SSW direction. Again, the private building helps to prevent that wind entering to the site. Also water taxis operate in this area, thus the site has an opportunity to allow people to reach to site in a new way. There are two ways to reach to the Essoldo. One through using the subway and the other one by using the Trafford Grove street. People usually take the path along the canal which can be another entrance to the site.
